Should I become a Public Safety Diver when I am already a certified diver?
Absolutely! Here is just an example as to why you should pursue you Public Safety Diver Certification. There have been an alarming amount of injuries and fatalities over the last 20 years with Public safety Divers. Most of the injuries or fatalities occurred during training exercises and all have occurred to individuals and departments that had no formal public safety training from a Public Safety Training Agency. Many Public Safety Divers are not certified as Public Safety Divers and hold only recreational certifications. Recreational certifications are based entirely on skills and standards for sport divers. Recreational training does not meet the safety and training needs of a Public Safety Diver. The highest levels of Sport diving certification serve only as a prerequisite to being trained as an Entry Level Public Safety Diver.
I am not a certified diver. Can I become a Public Safety Diver?
Yes, you can. PSDA offers Open Water training to get you started.
Can Open Water divers become Public Safety Divers?
Of course you can. But, extended training is necessary. During Public Safety Training you will receive the required skills to successfully and safely conduct search and recovery missions. Advance Open Water training is required to start the Entry Level Public Safety Training. The training for your Advanced Open Water Certification is offered through PSDA.
Why PSDA?
PSDA is the world’s largest public safety diving and water rescue training organization.
PSDA & Water Rescue has been training public safety divers and water rescue members since 1980. (PSDA & Water Rescue was originally the public safety division of IDEA.)
